September 26, 2009 is supposed to be one of my happy moments. We just come back from our honeymoon from Bohol. It was a rainy Saturday morning, I decided to take a nap, at around 10 am when my dad woke me up and asked me to transfer my car at the clubhouse because of the continuous rainfall and it may cause flood at any moment. I am not aware that there is a tropical storm Ondoy.
When I was about to prepare, the water began to enter. For five minutes our house is flooded. We saved some things that we can save. I immediately secured my wedding gown and my valuable items even my television without knowing it I forgot to save my photo albums and year books. Because it was all locked at the bottom of the cabinet. We put everything on our house high place, because the water reached up to knee inside our house. All of the sudden everything was wet and destroyed and I feel so sad, weak and frustrated. But what I can do that time, nothing but just to pray to keep us all safe.
My dad turn off the braker, we don’t have any idea what is happening outside. Until the night when we heard at the news that all over Manila is flooded. That there are some people that need to be on the roof to be safe. Even the celebrities did not escape from the tropical storm Ondoy. We leave near Laguna de Bay and this is the first time that we experienced this tragedy. The next day when we roamed around we all know that we need to evacuate, the water will not subside until the next month.
And now we have to face the reality of expenses. We need to repair the house immediately plus the cost of the rental. More expenses for the car repair, furniture and so on and this is only the time that we thought why we don’t have a home insurance.
ARE WE GOING TO WAIT FOR A DISASTER BEFORE WE PROTECT OUR HOME?
Everyone work hard for their dream house. Our home is our valuable asset and will be the best gift to our family. Because of home is one of the biggest assets it is important that we protect against fire, earthquake, typhoon and flood, volcanic eruption and others.
WHY IS HOME INSURANCE IS IMPORTANT
When my parents bought the house, they thought home insurance is additional expense. But after what happened and looking forward to the future, having our home insured will give us peace of mind. We know that whatever disaster happens we have an insurance.
WHERE TO GET INSURANCE
There are lot of Insurance companies now a days and most they offer the same packages and product coverage. But before we choose an insurance plan, we have to make sure that we research about the company. Compare which package is the best.
INSURE TO BE SURE
After extensive research, I found out that the Malayan Insurance is the best for the home insurance. They offer Home Protect Plus which includes the Property Insurance. What I like about this product they have a new product that covers typhoon and flood and volcanic eruption which suit best for the calamities. Because we will never know when it will happen.
Malayan Insurance also covers burglary and house breaking, alteration and repairs and a lot more.
IS HOME INSURANCE WORTH IT
After the Ondoy experience I believe that getting a home insurance is worth it. We are not just protecting our house but our families comfort also.

I live in the US and am required to get insurance on my mortgaged house. But I generally think home insurance is a good idea.
Insurance is always a good idea for something you cannot simply replace with cash. Homes, cars, etc. are all something that should be covered.
I believe it is extremely important to have insurance of any kind.
I agree with you
I’m so sorry you had to go through that flooding, it sounds awful! I think house insurance is always a good idea, particularly if you live in an area that is prone to earthquakes or tropical storms.
yah it’s so frustrating that we experienced this one
I’m so sorry you had to go through that kind of flooding, that is so awful. 🙁 We lost our basement to flooding one year, but luckily our insurance helped us fix that up as much as possible.
Nice to hear that you are already covered by insurance by that time
I always thought insurance was a huge waste of money. After working for an insurance company for a year, I realized the importance of insurance. I’m thankful I never lost anything while uninsured.
That is what I also thought but after what happened to us I realized the importance
