It’s now summer vacation , the school year is over 🙂 I already got my Little Kulit report card he got 91.12 in his final average and ranked as Top 9 in his class. I am not a type of mom who pressure kids to be in Top 3 or Top 1; I want him to enjoy his class and his surroundings. But I always remind to do well in his class, listen to his teachers and be good to his classmates.
In his progress report he is behave inside the classroom, active in recitation and he participate in all school activities.
How do we survive his first school year?
At first I got a little worried when I learned that he was accelerated, he does not have a formal schooling when he was still a toddler. But he is a fast learner and I believe that he is willing to learn that is why he got good grades.
Number One: Little Kulit is eager to learn- when he was two years old he does not like school, mas love pa niya ang arcade. But there was a time na-traffic kami somewhere in Manila near squatter area he got scared I told him if you don’t study you will be like them; you cannot eat chicken every day. From thereon he shows willingness to learn.
Number Two: Discipline in his study time- He learned this one in Kumon, if study time NO TV, NO GADGETS it’s only worksheets, books and his pencil lang he can touch. We also follow a certain time to study.
Number Three: I listen to him- I gave him instruction what to do if we are working on his assignments or worksheets. But there will be a time that that he will suggest something or he will tell me that I am wrong; I will listen to him and will check if I can do some adjustments.
Number Four: I don’t get a tutor- even I am a working mom I make it appoint that I have time for his studies, I will be the one to teach and guide him in all his assignments and exam week.
Number Five: I let him breathe- if he is overwhelmed with his studies, I let him breathe and play a while.
Number Six- Compliments- Very Good, Job Well done, excellent is music to his ears. So every time that he got good grades or perfect score in his worksheets I don’t forget to say the magic words
Number Seven- I am his teacher during study time- I pretend to be his teacher during our study time, he will call me Teacher Mommy Anna if he got a perfect score I put star in his arm para ma feel niya na he is doing good and ganahan mag aral.
I am not a perfect mother but I am trying to be one I want my son to grow up as a gentleman and intelligent person. As much as possible I will stay by his side to guide him in every steps and decision in his life.

Like you, I don’t pressure my son to be top in his class but I always tell him to do his best. I don’ want him to compete with other people because I want him to compete on himself, that he can do more and improve sa naachieve na niya.

Congrats! I also do not want to pressure my kids to be honor students. I just want them to learn and enjoy, and hopefully apply what they have learned.

Congratulations Mommy! I haven’t got my son’s card yet. But like you I didn’t pressure him to be on top. As long as he’s behaving well in school and learning, I’m happy 🙂 For this summer, I decided to homeschool him again. We are more on reading and arts.
I want him to enjoy being a kid as long as he know his limitations 🙂 I supposed to enroll him for summer class pero wala maghahatid sa school that is why I bought books na lang and we study every night

Congrats!!! I agree with not pressuring the kid. Kasi if he’s an achiever, the pressure would come from him. He’ll want to be the best, and we as parents, should just guide and encourage them.

Congratulations! I envy you for you still have time to teach your kid even after office. I was once like that but my work assignment now made it impossible for me to teach my daughter after office. I come home very late na kaya kawawa naman si baby if she will still wait for me pa before sya mag-aral. I got her a tutor now but I still see to it that we do studying together once in a while especially during exams. I also do not pressure her to get a high rank in class. Like you, I want her to enjoy her studies. Eventually, she’s the one na who’s striving to get a high mark. 🙂 At least, no pressure from us.
As of now kaya ko pa –balance time work and studies ni baby kaya I asked his teacher to give me ahead of time of his exam schedule para I can adjust my work schedule.

Good job! I do that to our twins as well whenever we see kids in the streets. I know they are still too young, but I believe too, that that will motivate them to study.
As a mom we really need to motivate our kids to study, this is the only thing that we can give it to them that they can keep forever

Your post makes me more excited to see my daughter in school uniform this June. I hope nag-improve na siya that time. She’s attending summer class kasi pero nahihirapan ang mga teachers niya kasi may pagka-moody ang anak ko. May times na ayaw sumunod sa pinapagawa sa kanya, may oras naman na sobrang active at nagpaparticipate siya. Iniisip ko na lang na nag-aadjust pa siya and eventually matuto din siya sumunod.
One of these days ipakita ko nga sa kanya ang squatter’s area baka sakali makatulong katulad sa nangyari sa son mo. 🙂
That is my problem din before when he was three years old ayaw talaga he wants to play lang, we tried two schools ang ending one month lang and mas madalas absent because he does not want to participate and mag paiwan. Natakot siya sa squatters area talaga nun kasi madilim by that time, You try kumon it really helps din he tried it for two months
